The occasional groans of fellow classmates and persistent rumblings of empty stomachs in the classroom were immediately replaced by happy cheers as all of us expressed our freedom upon the ringing of the much much awaited Recess bell.
For almost every of my fellow mates, Recess is the time to fill up our Hungry stomachs, though with unsavoury canteen food, which has much much room for improvement.
For me Recess is precious and so time should not be wasted on activities other than food, and of course the visit to the loo.
As per normal Recess begins with dashing down the eight flights of stairs, then the long, long snaking queues at the stalls. The stall holders are usually slow, bad-tempered and not so friendly.Perhaps they are not aware that we are growing teenagers? BUT they always wear a big bright smile when they serve the teachers. See the difference in treatment?
As always, fellow friends make small talk while munching away. So you can imagine the occasional din and outbursts of laughter.

At times, a loud whistling sound can be heard, signalling the arrival of the duty-bound, highly feared and strict OM. Basically the OM is a good hearted man, whom I think, is trying his very best to prevent us from choking on our food as we bit, swallow, talk and laugh. Of course, he is also trying to keep the noise level down, just in case some members of the public were to walk in and mistaken us for kindergarten kids.
As it is no easy task to supress the hundred plus adrenaline filled teenage boys, the OM has to put on a deadpan serious look and keep threatening us with Dentention. But, like he like to remind us all, he is a Nice man, no need to fear him and no need to run away whenever we see him. Right? Right!
As always, Recess time pass too quickly, though we were assured that the time allocated is the Same as that for any other periods. Well all good times must come to an end. So back to the classrooms to continue our pursuit of knowledge.
See you guys tomorrow at Recess!
